Situated only a few miles East of Austin, many residents have found Bastrop County as a quiet alternative to the busyness of Austin. Within our 896 square miles resides a population of 75,825 (2013) and includes the cities of Bastrop, Elgin and Smithville. Known as the "Historic Triangle," these cities were voted three of the most historic small towns in Texas. The county seat is located in the City of Bastrop.

The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office is entrusted with the responsibility to serve and promote safety for our citizens.
